Is iPhone X waterproof?

iPhone X is Water Resistant not waterproof

Phone X is splash, water and dust resistant, and was tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529 given by the company.

It is rated to withstand a half hour of water immersion from 15cm to maybe a meter. That doesn’t mean you get warranty coverage if you go swimming and it dies though. If you just go about your life and figure if you get pushed in a pool your phone might survive, that is the right attitude. If you decide you will go swimming with your phone every day you might end up with heartbreak.
Edit (addition): waterproof (or resistance) is the kind of thing that can go away without you noticing. So your brand new phone may be able to go for a swim, but after you have it for a few weeks and it falls out of your front pocket, or out of bed, or the dog knocks it off a side table…even if none of that even mars the finish you can break rubber seals, knock loose stoppers, strain glue. After that a swim could kill the phone. So it really is best to treat it as “maybe it'll be ok, maybe not”.
