However, the recent reports mentioned that the company will resume the pre-booking after the Diwali festive season. The company is now in process of shipping the device to those who pre-ordered it back in August. Now, we came to know about the explosion of the JioPhone feature phone which the company mentioned as ‘India ka Smartphone’ during its launch event.

While there is no official statement from Reliance Jio or LYF, we got some interesting information from the LYF distributor who personally inspected the device. From the above featured image, we can see the back of the device is completely burnt and melted. While the front of the device is still intact, we expect only the display is damaged. We also got the exclusive image of the charger of the exploded JioPhone. From the below image, we can clearly see the melted wire of the charger.

With the melted charger, we don’t expect the device to get enough power to charge itself. Compared to the regular feature phones, the JioPhone also features a slightly bigger battery of 2000mAh capacity. If the explosion was caused by the battery, it should have been already in pieces while in the pictures its clear that the battery is intact. From the LYF distributor, we also came to know that the battery of this device is still working.

While the whole incident looks deliberate, we will be updating this article once there is an official statement from the company. Again do make a note that the Jio Phone is part of the LFY Phones portfolio and we had earlier reported about the LYF Water 1 Smartphone exploding last year. Last week, we also covered about the mid-air explosion of the Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone on a Jet Airways flight from New Delhi to Indore.
Commenting on the incident, Spokesperson of Reliance Retail, said,
“JioPhones are designed and manufactured with global standards, and each phone goes through stringent quality control process. The said incident has been reported to us. Our initial investigation suggests that this is a case of intentional sabotage. The damage to the device seems to have been intentionally caused. The incident, as well as its timing, has been designed by vested interests to malign the brand. We will take appropriate action based on further investigations.”
While these incidents can happen anytime, we suggest you to use the original battery and charger provided with the device. Stay tuned on Phoneradar for more details!
