What is the difference between iPhone 7 and iPhone 8?
This is a question a lot of people have. At their event, Apple didn't make this clear.
The iPhone 8 has a new design

The glass back and the updated colors do give the iPhone a new feel. Many people underestimate design. While it may seem trivial and useless, the new and slick design is important.
Inside the iPhone 7 is the A10 Fusion chip. In the iPhone 8, there is a A11 Bionic Chip. What does this mean? The iPhone 8 is fast. How fast? Really fast. The iPhone 7 is already one of the fastest phones ever. The iPhone 8’s chip is 25% faster than the A10.
The iPhone has the first ever Apple-designed GPU which is made to work perfectly with Metal 2 which allows for 3D gaming to be faster, more efficient, and less laggy.
The iPhone 8 also has a slightly tweaked camera that makes the camera better including processes like pixel processing, faster autofocus, and hardware noise reduction. What does this all mean? The camera is better on the iPhone 8.
Finally, the iPhone 8+ has a Portrait Lighting Mode. This allows the portrait pictures you take to have professional effects added.
In the end, the iPhone 8 feels more like an iPhone 7s. It has many solid improvements that increase the iPhone experience. However, it doesn't warrant an upgrade from the iPhone 7
